“We had it all, just like Bogie and Bacall”Bertie Higgins

As a songwriter, Bertie Higgins mastered combining island sounds with country style. In 1981, Higgins recorded and released his single “Key Largo,” also featured on his romantic, escapist-themed, platinum selling album “Just Another Day in Paradise.” The song, heavily inspired by the 1948 Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall film of the same name quickly hit number 1 in early 1982, spending 17 weeks in the Top 40 and has since gone on to become a “yacht rock” classic. Other top hits written by Higgins include “Just Another Day in Paradise, “Pirates and Poets” and another Bogie & Bacall film inspired-namesake “Casablanca”, which became Song of the Year and remains a classic in the Pacific Rim countries.
