“I carry my own rock ‘n’ roll torch”Dave Wyndorf
Founded in 1989 by Dave Wyndorf (vocals, guitar), John McBain (guitar) and Tim Cronin (drums), New Jersey based rockers Monster Magnet carved their own “stoner rock” niche into the emerging grunge rock scene with a fusion of ‘70s inspired hard rock, metal, space rock, punk and psychedelia. Since formation, the band has had a revolving door of members while frontman, main songwriter and cosmic visionary Dave Wyndorf remains the only original member. Released by Caroline Records in 1992, their debut full-length album Spine Of God was hailed as a uniquely dark psychedelic masterpiece. Soon after the band were signed to A&M Records they recorded and released four stellar albums, including Superjudge (1993), Dopes To Infinity (1995), which yielded the top ten rock single “Negasonic Teenage Warhead”, and 1998’s breakthrough album Powertrip, which featured the band’s biggest single “Space Lord”. Into the new millennium and following the band’s final A&M album, 2001’s God Says No, Wyndorf has kept the Monster Magnet trip alive by touring and releasing a succession of acclaimed indie rock albums including Monolithic Baby (2004), 4-Way Diablo (2007) and the compelling Mastermind (2010), which was dubbed “a decadent psych-rock whirlpool” by Rolling Stone.
